Between services on Sunday, November 13, the Advocacy Action committee will be in the Gallery with letters to Senators Wyden and Merkley requesting them to support the Global Food Security Reauthorization Act of 2022 (S.4649).

The 2022 Global Report on Food Crises highlighted an alarming increase in acute food insecurity. Nearly 193 million people are at crisis level or worse in 53 countries as a result of intensified conflict, significant economic shocks (such as COVID-19), and some of the most severe weather extremes in recent years. The global figure is the highest in the report’s six-year history, exceeding last year’s figure by 25 percent.

The bill currently in the Senate would address this crisis. It provides Congressional authorization to Feed the Future, a U.S. government initiative charged with combating chronic hunger and food insecurity around the world.
