Advocacy Action

On February 9, a bipartisan group of senators introduced S3623, the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act (VAWA) of 2022. The bill, which would authorize VAWA through 2027, preserves advances made in previous reauthorization bills and includes several additional improvements to the current law.
The Violence Against Women Act has provided protections for women, especially on issues like intimate partner violence, human trafficking and sexual assault. The legislation provides funding for essential services such as shelters, abuse hotlines and rape-crisis centers. Improvements in this reauthorization bill include strengthening rape prevention and education efforts, providing legal funding and increased support for marginalized communities like LGBTQ survivors, and expanding special criminal jurisdiction by tribal courts to cover non-native perpetrators of sexual assault.
Write to your members of Congress (Senators Wyden and Merkley and your Congressional representative) today and urge them to protect women by passing the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2022. Click here to Take Action.
