SUMMARY:St. Michael's Singers rehearsal
DESCRIPTION:This 35-voice choir provides vocal leadership during the 9:00 and 11:00 am Sunday services from early September through early June. The choir sings an anthem during the offertory at each service and leads the congregation in the psalms\, hymns and service music. \nThe St. Michael’s Singers is a close-knit community of singers with varying levels of choral experience who are willing to make the commitment required to maintain a high level of music-making in support of our worship services. The St. Michael’s Singers rehearse on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and sing at the 9:00 and/or 11:00 services each Sunday (except in summertime)\, rehearsing an hour before each service. A smaller Chamber Choir consisting of four paid section leaders and other members of the St. Michael’s Singers takes the alternate services. \nThe St. Michael’s Singers also prepares music for special services such as Choral Evensong\, Advent Lessons & Carols\, Christmas Eve and Holy Week. The choir’s repertoire ranges from traditional Anglican choral anthems to gospel spirituals\, Renaissance motets\, world music\, and everything in between. The St. Michael’s Singers is open to anyone who can match pitch and commit to the schedule of weekly rehearsals and Sunday morning services. Some choral experience is helpful\, but no audition is required. Each Sunday\, we’ll get to know at least two different characters from Christian tradition – at least one who was praised for their faithfulness and one who was deemed a heretic by the Church. By taking a close look at the kinds of people the Church has praised and the kinds we’ve tried to keep quiet\, we’ll learn more about where the Church has been at different points in our history and theology. Each Sunday\, we’ll get to know at least two different characters from Christian tradition – at least one who was praised for their faithfulness and one who was deemed a heretic by the Church. By taking a close look at the kinds of people the Church has praised and the kinds we’ve tried to keep quiet\, we’ll learn more about where the Church has been at different points in our history and theology. SUMMARY:St. Michael's Singers rehearsal
DESCRIPTION:This 35-voice choir provides vocal leadership during the 9:00 and 11:00 am Sunday services from early September through early June. The choir sings an anthem during the offertory at each service and leads the congregation in the psalms\, hymns and service music. \nThe St. Michael’s Singers is a close-knit community of singers with varying levels of choral experience who are willing to make the commitment required to maintain a high level of music-making in support of our worship services. The St. Michael’s Singers rehearse on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and sing at the 9:00 and/or 11:00 services each Sunday (except in summertime)\, rehearsing an hour before each service. A smaller Chamber Choir consisting of four paid section leaders and other members of the St. Michael’s Singers takes the alternate services. \nThe St. Michael’s Singers also prepares music for special services such as Choral Evensong\, Advent Lessons & Carols\, Christmas Eve and Holy Week. The choir’s repertoire ranges from traditional Anglican choral anthems to gospel spirituals\, Renaissance motets\, world music\, and everything in between. Our first session will discuss an approach from Avery Brooke’s Healing in the Landscape of Prayer called “the healing of memories.” This technique of healing prayer involves visualization for the use of healing from traumatic experiences in one’s past and can be a gift to one’s self and one’s friends and family. If you’re interested in learning more about this prayer practice\, join James in the Nativity Hall at 10:15 am this morning and on February 10 and 24 and March 3. The first step in living into the future we want to see is being able to imagine it!
