Taizé Prayer Service

On the second Monday of every month, at 7:00 pm, we gather for this prayer service using the chants and prayers of the Taizé Community, an ecumenical monastic community in France. The service, usually held in the Nativity Hall, is a quiet and reflective opportunity. Gathered around a replica of a Cross of Taizé made by woodworkers in our parish and in the light of votive candles, petitions and silent prayers are offered. Following the reading of a psalm and a Gospel passage, a period of silence is kept for reflection, usually about 5-10 minutes. Petitions are then offered and brief prayers close the 45-minute to one-hour service. Surrounding the time is the music of the Taizé Community in the form of simple chants and songs offered. A group of prayer and music leaders guide the gathering.
