DESCRIPTION:Monday Book Group meets twice a month in the Raphael Room\, and very occasionally at a participant’s home. \nIn June and July\, the Monday Book Group will be watching a 20-minute video from Living the Questions\, a set of DVDs created by progressive Christian scholars and theologians\, and then discussing the ideas presented. The group decided to watch three videos that explore questions about Jesus to complement the nine-week study that Rector Chris Craun is offering on Monday evenings entitled Reclaiming Jesus. \nIn August\, the group hopes to have a couple of potluck lunches at the homes of book group members where folks can enjoy good food\, beautiful gardens and share readings\, poems\, books\, or prayers that are meaningful to them. Summer is a great time to join the group\, get to know us and see whether the friendship and exchange of ideas about life and faith might enrich your life. There is always a lot of laughter going on. Everyone is welcome!

DESCRIPTION:The Catechumenate is the primary parish process for incorporating new Christians into life in Christ through Holy Baptism. It also serves\nto support those persons already baptized who are coming to a new place in their faith journey and want to affirm that through Confirmation\,\nReception into The Episcopal Church from another faith tradition\, or Reaffirmation. The formation process is one of listening to and reflecting on the Gospels\, the Baptismal Covenant\, our personal relationships with God and the work of God the Holy Spirit in our daily lives\, all of this within the context of sharing in Christian community. \nThe Catechumenate meets almost every Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and from Advent 1 to the Bishop’s Visitation in May.

SUMMARY:St. Michael's Singers rehearsal
DESCRIPTION:This 35-voice choir provides vocal leadership during the 9:00 and 11:00 am Sunday services from early September through early June. The choir sings an anthem during the offertory at each service and leads the congregation in the psalms\, hymns and service music. \nThe St. Michael’s Singers is a close-knit community of singers with varying levels of choral experience who are willing to make the commitment required to maintain a high level of music-making in support of our worship services. The St. Michael’s Singers rehearse on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and sing at the 9:00 and/or 11:00 services each Sunday (except in summertime)\, rehearsing an hour before each service. A smaller Chamber Choir consisting of four paid section leaders and other members of the St. Michael’s Singers takes the alternate services. \nThe St. Michael’s Singers also prepares music for special services such as Choral Evensong\, Advent Lessons & Carols\, Christmas Eve and Holy Week. The choir’s repertoire ranges from traditional Anglican choral anthems to gospel spirituals\, Renaissance motets\, world music\, and everything in between. The St. Michael’s Singers is open to anyone who can match pitch and commit to the schedule of weekly rehearsals and Sunday morning services. Some choral experience is helpful\, but no audition is required. DESCRIPTION:On Sundays in March and April\, the Godly Play 1 class (pre-K through 1st grade) will continue learning about stories and parables at 10:10 am. \nThe Godly Play 2/Kids Connection has begun a new series for 2nd- through 5th-grade students called Shining Hearts Ministry: Fostering young peacemakers through sacred stories\, community service and deepening our understanding of the Abrahamic Faith traditions. The first three-part sessions was a focus on Judaism in February. Christianity is happening now\, during the season of Lent\, and Part 3 (Islam) will be offered on April 28 and May 5 and 19. Classes will be co-led by Leslie Sackett and guest teacher\, Catie Macauley\, a St. Michael’s youth with a passion for inter-faith education as a foundation for peace in our world.

DESCRIPTION:This year\, as we journey through the season of Lent together\, we’ll have an opportunity to deepen our relationship with the ‘great cloud of witnesses’ who have traveled the Way before us and meet a few other notorious characters along the way. Our Forum series this season is Saints & Sinners (not to be confused with our own Saints & Singers Choir!). Each Sunday\, we’ll get to know at least two different characters from Christian tradition – at least one who was praised for their faithfulness and one who was deemed a heretic by the Church. By taking a close look at the kinds of people the Church has praised and the kinds we’ve tried to keep quiet\, we’ll learn more about where the Church has been at different points in our history and theology. SUMMARY:Centering Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Silent\, contemplative prayer is a practice which many find to be a nourishing discipline in the midst of a busy\, noisy world. The Centering Prayer group has met consistently since 2003. Participants gather at St. Michael’s House from 7:00 to 8:45 pm on first and third Mondays from the fall through the spring\, and typically meet on only one of those weeks during the summer months. \nBased on the historical Christian silent meditation practices espoused by Fr. Thomas Keating and Oregon Contemplative Outreach\, there are typically two 20-minute silent “sits” that bookend a short discussion time on a designated book or bible passage (Lectio Divina). We have a core of faithful practitioners that meet to “hold space” in their lives and in community — to develop mindfulness\, as a place for the sacred to enter into our daily lives\, and in support of our personal spiritual journey and contemplative practice. \nAll are welcome to just show up\, or contact the church office\, Paul Lacroix\, Hans Carter or Tim Sackett for more information.

DESCRIPTION:The Catechumenate is the primary parish process for incorporating new Christians into life in Christ through Holy Baptism. It also serves\nto support those persons already baptized who are coming to a new place in their faith journey and want to affirm that through Confirmation\,\nReception into The Episcopal Church from another faith tradition\, or Reaffirmation. The formation process is one of listening to and reflecting on the Gospels\, the Baptismal Covenant\, our personal relationships with God and the work of God the Holy Spirit in our daily lives\, all of this within the context of sharing in Christian community. \nThe Catechumenate meets almost every Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and from Advent 1 to the Bishop’s Visitation in May.

SUMMARY:St. Michael's Singers rehearsal
DESCRIPTION:This 35-voice choir provides vocal leadership during the 9:00 and 11:00 am Sunday services from early September through early June. The choir sings an anthem during the offertory at each service and leads the congregation in the psalms\, hymns and service music. \nThe St. Michael’s Singers is a close-knit community of singers with varying levels of choral experience who are willing to make the commitment required to maintain a high level of music-making in support of our worship services. The St. Michael’s Singers rehearse on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and sing at the 9:00 and/or 11:00 services each Sunday (except in summertime)\, rehearsing an hour before each service. A smaller Chamber Choir consisting of four paid section leaders and other members of the St. Michael’s Singers takes the alternate services. \nThe St. Michael’s Singers also prepares music for special services such as Choral Evensong\, Advent Lessons & Carols\, Christmas Eve and Holy Week. The choir’s repertoire ranges from traditional Anglican choral anthems to gospel spirituals\, Renaissance motets\, world music\, and everything in between. The St. Michael’s Singers is open to anyone who can match pitch and commit to the schedule of weekly rehearsals and Sunday morning services. Some choral experience is helpful\, but no audition is required.
