2024 Commitment Season Updates

“Rooted and Grounded in Love” is the theme of our 2024 Commitment Season. The season began on October 15, and each Sunday we’re hearing from vestry and Team L.I.F.E. members about why and how they pledge. This coming Sunday, November 5, we’ll hear from vestry member Beth Ilem at the 9:00 and 11:00 am services and the 1:00 pm service in Spanish.

Feast of All Saints/Día de Todos los Santos

On Sunday, November 5, we celebrate All Saints Sunday, a day to honor our deceased loved ones. The names of many of those who died since last All Saints are listed in the bulletins and will be read aloud during the services. Some of those who attend the 1:00 service set up the Altar de los Muertos in the church last Sunday, and there are photos on the altar of some of our loved ones. These photographs and remembrances represent the “great cloud of witnesses” which surround us.

Family Worship

Got kids? Family Worship returns on Saturday, October 21. Join the circle of friends and families in the Nativity Hall for music and worship followed by a potluck dinner. Come connect with other families and their young children as we sing, dance, pray and give thanks for God’s goodness in each other, in creation and in our community.

Advocacy Action Activity

On Sunday, October 8, members of the Advocacy Action Committee will be in the Gallery between services with letters to Representatives Blumenauer and Bonamici asking them to support HR 3103, the Defending the Rights of Palestinian Children and Families Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act. This would prevent any U.S. funds from supporting the detention of children.

Celebration of New Ministry

Thursday, October 5, at 6:30 pm, we celebrate the long-awaited installation of the Rev. R. Scott Painter as our 8th Rector. All are invited and welcome! This will be an evening of great tradition and joy, with Bishop Diana presiding and preaching. Eucharist will be included in the service, which will be bilingual, and many clergy in the diocese will be in attendance as well as many of Scott+’s family and friends

St. Michael’s New Church – 1923

Almost as soon as they started worshiping in the little brown church at the NW corner of NE 38th & Broadway, the leaders of St Michael’s realized that they would soon need a larger worship space. That little church only held 100 people (according to Iona Gardiner, one of the founders of the congregation).
