Lenten Forums

Filed under: Adult Education & Formation — caroline @ 4:36 pm

For five Sundays during Lent (February 10-March 9) the Adult Forum will focus on “Getting to Know the Bible.” Each Sunday’s topic will highlight aspects of Scripture that will allow you to read the Bible with richer understanding. Topics include:

  • February 10: What is “the Word of God,” and how does one begin to read the Bible so that its essential message is not lost?
  • February 17: How is the Hebrew Bible (the “Old Testament”) organized? What are the essential themes, and how does the Hebrew Bible speak to us today?
  • February 24: Israel’s prayer book: The Psalms—a perfect Lenten walk.
  • March 2: How is the New Testament organized? The historical background, a look at the four gospels, and its message for today.
  • March 9: St. Paul and Paul’s theology: What is the meaning of Jesus?

The series will be taught and facilitated by Pete Schmidt, and will include video, presentation, and discussion. Each Forum presentation is from 10:10 to 10:50, and all are invited to participate for any and all of the discussions.
