The Feast of Pentecost

On Sunday, May 20, we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost. Pentecost commemorates the day that the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples and sent them out into the world to proclaim the Good News of Christ, and it is sometimes referred to as “the birthday of the church.” We like to dress in the colors of the Holy Spirit’s flame, so check your closet for your favorite red, yellow or orange article of clothing and plan to wear it on the 20th!

We will also welcome Bishop Hanley to St. Michael’s on Pentecost. He will preside and preach at the 9:00 and 11:00 am and 1:00 pm liturgies as well as perform confirmations, receptions and reaffirmations. The catechumens have been studying and growing in their faith every week since the beginning of Advent, and a large show of support for them would be very welcome.

And if all that isn’t enough, you don’t want to miss the after-party! Following the morning services, come to the Parish Hall for some Pentecost trifle and champagne, and check out the dance party in the Nativity Hall after the 9:00! If you would like to help in any way with this reception, please contact the church office or call 503/284-7141.
